Pueblos

Blue New Mexico skys
Pueblos
Hot heat
Some of us went ahead
Scouted sites
Reservoir’s echo calls
Seems so far
Bench sits near the gate
Tree over hangs
We stayed behind
five bodies fill leather cuts
scattered
the prairie dogs been following us
staring
A brick of Colorado Cool Aid waits
Cracked.
crack
Bikes sit glisten on the side walk
Tired rubber
We breathe in the dust
Breathe it out
Sip
the cool
Another
Another
Cops roll by
Slow down
Stop
Ask
Guns out of site
Knives gone
No harm here
Not police business
“Find a place to sleep here?”
“No sir. Not yet.”
“Round the corner.”
“Can’t swim just anywhere though boys”..
“Ok.”
Yeah right
The blue rolls through
We sit
Crack
Crack
Sun still beats
Losing minds
Minds going
Gone
Young girl
18
Maybe
17
Haley
Sits in the small building
Not far from us
Watching the cars roll by
We yell we holler we howl
“Hi boys!”
We turn back to the cool
Crack
Long gone minds now
Turn to look down the road
The cool calls our name
Engines start
We’re gone
Around the corner
To the cool
